Advocacies
LAKAN champions a community-centered approach to HIV response. We believe that HIV programs must be designed to address and be sensitive to the needs of the affected community.
Community Empowerment
We strongly advocate for empowering the community to provide
services for its members and engage in socio-civic actions, ensuring their voices are heard by local leaders and implementers. We believe that the community's effective initiatives and capabilities should be recognized and supported through social contracting by the government to tackle the growing challenge of HIV in the Philippines. This is legally founded on the 1987 Philippine Constitution’s Declaration of Principles.
Equality and Inclusivity
Lakan advocates for equality and inclusivity for marginalized groups of People Living with HIV and LGBTQIA+. We firmly oppose discrimination or persecution based on HIV status or sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, or sex characteristics (SOGIESC). We believe their access to services and human rights should never be compromised. The 1987 Philippine Constitution in its entirety does not discriminate against such peoples, particularly Article III "Bill of Rights". It is imperative that these rights are upheld and respected by the government and all its agencies, as well as the public.
Goals
LAKAN’s goals are community-centered, focusing on sustaining continuous provision of community-based TB, HIV, and AIDS health services to the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Inclusivity
We are committed to offer and advocate for gender-affirmative care, enhance the capacities of community-based organizations for greater autonomy and sustainability.
Health
Our goal is also to promote evidence-based health policies, programs, and services tailored to key and marginalized communities.
Sustainability
We strive to foster sustainability through initiatives such as social contracting, social enterprise, and social impact investments, ensuring the continuity of our operations and those of our networked organizations.
